30 Day Plastic Free Challenge
Happy Easter everyone, and happy 1st of the month! For all of April I'll be doing a Plastic Free Challenge over on the Animal Works Instagram account. Big cats are always first and foremost my absolute priority when caring for this planet, but something a little closer to home for me is the ocean. I live on the NSW Central Coast of Australia (Australia is one of only two countries that has no native big or wild cats of any kind :( :( :( ) and I am a hands on type of person, so I do all I can from afar for the African loves of my life with this charity, and go to Africa as often as I can, but for my 'hands on' need when I'm not there I focus on the ocean, which I visit almost every day. For a long time now I've been picking up plastic off the beach which includes other people's dog poo!! Seriously, why put it in a plastic bag if you're then going to leave it on the beach?! But more recently I've begun eliminating as much single use plastics from my life as possible and its easier than you think!
The first challenge is an easy one - plastic bags! What awful killing machines these are, and if you live in NSW, the only state that hasn't banned them yet (how embarrassing), you'll be faced with this challenge almost daily. Australians use an estimated 5 billion plastic bags a year! That is just over 13 million new plastic bags being used every day. So every one really can make a difference by eliminating them from their lives.
