Cat Shelters Around The World: Turkey

Inspired by Catsparella's 'Around the World in 80 Cats' blog posts (check out my contribution here), I've decided to feature some awesome cat shelters around the world. Before I launched CTM, I approached many cat rescue/TNR groups to see if they wanted to come on board, seeing that I was representing orgs from all over the world. Believe it or not, some turned me down (I don't blame them, seeing that I didn't have a website at the time or anything to prove I was legit), however, I've had many ask me for help since launching so the least I can do is dedicate a blog post to them. I will also, from time to time, be selling other items (hoodies, totes etc) which will be donated to charities other than my regulars, and will also keep these ones in mind.

Today you're learning about Marmaris Cat Shelter in Turkey.

Marmaris is a fantastic organisation, focusing on the rescue and rehoming of unwanted cats and kittens, often taken off the streets, and often rehomed internationally, to new loving European homes.

It all started with a dog owner:

"I had no idea of founding a Cat Shelter as I had dogs all my life. I even brought my dog to Turkey. Ten years ago during the night I found a stranded kitten, a tiny black and white thing. He was only 4 days old. I had no idea if he would live or die because I had no idea what to do. My experience was only with dogs. So I called him Hayat which means "life" in Turkish. I thought if he had a lucky name, it will bring him luck also and give him a chance in "life".

"The real founder of our cat shelter is Hayat, who is now a six year old bossy, anti-social, independent, single minded but handsome moggy."

Koritz, a blind kitty who now lives in Germany
