CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST:
Oliver came to us in such an unusual way; I wished for him, and judging from the state he was in when he found us I'm pretty sure he was wishing for us too.
It had been about a year since we moved out of Manhattan to Queens and I was hoping and dreaming of convincing my boyfriend that we should get a cat. No. No. No.
Soon, his objections finally turned into "Christmas" and I was elated. At Christmas time we could adopt a kitty!
In my preparations for my soon to be Christmas bundle of joy I started googling cat beds, scratch posts, cat toys and all things kitty. I even put a picture of my perfect cat on the screensaver of my computer. A girl could dream.
I even said a prayer and hoped to God he would send me a gorgeous cat with bright beautiful green eyes, and tiger striped and sweet. So sweet that you could rub his tum tum and just kiss him all over and shower him with love. Love.
Literally the next day we left to go grocery shopping and when we came home, sitting in the driveway was a tattered and frazzled alley cat. He was missing hair at the nape of his neck, had blood and scabs in his injury area and was infested with fleas. Our neighbor had told his that she has seen him for the past month and had been trying to find him a home, but couldn't.
Christmas had come five months early and boy was he beautiful. We took him in, gave him a flea bath and the vet said he's purrfect.
That night, Oliver nestled close to my body and I put my face to his and told him I was so happy to have him and that I loved him SOOOOOO much. His little scratchy tounge kissed my nose and I knew that was his way of telling me that he loved me too.
Oliver is the purrfect kitty, with bright green eyes, tiger striped, and sweet as can be. He loves getting his tummy rubbed and chasing strings!
As always, I try to encourage people to adopt when welcoming a new cat into their home, and this wonderful story strongly supports my case! Who wouldn't want to give a loving home to a needy kitty?!...
