Featured Feline Artist

I'm am absolutely in love with today's Featured Feline Artist's quirky style and cute kitties! She also does amazing things for street cats in Greece. Meet Daphne Sivetidis, who currently resides in the UK. Be sure to check out her Etsy shop and website.

How long have you been a practicing artist for?

I've been working as a freelance illustrator for the past two years. I didn't go to Art school, so for a few years before I started getting paid work I was just drawing like crazy all the time, and doing lots and lots of free work for people such as drawing flyers/posters for gigs and D.I.Y. events and working part time as an illustrator in a graphic design studio.

Tell us about your first attempts to be creative.

I did alot of drawing as a child. My mum let me draw all over the walls of our house when I was really small and then I made a drawing club with a friend from school - we made up characters and drew small books and zines.

What are your inspirations?

Mmm that's a difficult one. Until recently my beautiful cat Fridou was my main inspiration but sadly she went missing two months ago. I am inspired by other illustrators who have the confidence to go against current trends and as a result develop a really unique style! Nature, animals, colours and textures are constant inspirations, as well as people's energy and determination to get through tough times.

What has been your most exciting moment as an artist?

My most exciting recent moment was when the Museum Benaki in Greece decided to exhibit and sell some of my work in their shop.

What are your artistic goals?

My artistic goals are to continue developing my style and to draw as much as possible. Also to get a children's book published and to create better links with other illustrators and develop joint projects.

Are you involved with any cat rescue organisations?

I am not formally involved in any cat rescue organisations, however I am involved in efforts to look after stray cats and dogs in some local neighbourhoods in Athens. Also, now that the rules for bringing pets into the UK have been relaxed I want to set up a scheme that sends stray cats that need a home from Greece to the UK.
