Featured Feline Artist + GIVEAWAY!

This weeks Featured Feline Artist is a truly amazing graphic artist - Brooke Behnken of FuzzyMug. Check out her Etsy store and Facebook page for more, but for now she's been kind enough to tell us a little about herself. She has also offered my fabulous readers a wonderful giveaway - keep reading for the deets!

How long have you been a practicing artist for?

In addition to running FuzzyMug (started in 2009), I am also a graphic designer for corporations and businesses. I've been working in that field since my first college internship in 1995. I've always been an artist, though. I sold my first painting when I was a senior in high school.

Tell us about your first attempts to be creative.

My first attempts to be creative probably involved a 64-pack of crayola crayons! I can remember being at sleep-over parties when I was 7 or 8 and making elaborate, rainbow-colored drawings for all of my friends. They would gather around and watch me draw. I've always loved making things for others - so cool to see someone enjoying something you created from scratch.

What are your inspirations?

My inspiration definitely from my pets (3 cats and 3 dogs - all rescues) and other animals I know. I am continually amazed by the fabulous personalities that these furry critters have and I create images that show how quirky and unique each animal is. I also adore a deadline! I get really inspired right before a craft show or holiday, just coming up with little funny things that would catch my eye if I was a shopper.

What has been your most exciting moment as an artist?

I have some really exciting PR things coming up this holiday season but I have to keep them a secret for the moment. Shhh! I still think my most exciting moments with FuzzyMug were selling my first custom portrait and making my first Etsy sale. The positive feedback I continue to get from clients is fantastic. Making people happy and feeling appreciated makes my day!

What are your artistic goals?

Well, I am having twins (due in late January 2012), so my biggest goal is figuring out how I am going to juggle being a mother with running my business and finding time to stay creative. I know it's going to be hard but I love a challenge and I genuinely love what I do, so I know I will find a way to make it all work. Wish me luck :)
