Our Kariega Foundation Partnership Continues

In November last year I announced a new partnership with the Kariega Foundation, located at the beautiful Kariega Private Game Reserve in South Africa’s Eastern Cape. For the last six months we have been working with them on a leopard conservation initiative, and last month we made the exciting decision to continue working on this same project, as well as to dream big and expand our conservation efforts to lion and cheetah.

Cheetahs are Africa’s most threatened cat, with only around 6,700 left in the wild. Lion numbers also continue to drop. Just over a century ago, there were more than 200,000 wild lions living in Africa, today there are just 20,000. Lions, leopards and cheetahs are all listed as Vulnerable with numbers decreasing on the IUCN Red List.

These three big cats all face numerous threats including human-wildlife conflict, poaching, unsustainable trophy hunting, habitat loss, and the illegal wildlife trade.

I’m delighted to continue working with the wonderful Kariega team, and while my planned June-July Africa trip is now postponed, I will be on the first plane there as soon as the world is back to normal!

If you’d like to support our conservation work, you can contribute directly to our projects here, or check out our online shopping options here (have you seen our new postcards?! More info below). We will also be holding some fundraisers as soon as we can, so sign up to our mailing list or follow us on Instagram and Facebook to stay up to date on all things African Cat!

We launched our beautiful new fine art postcards on Monday, a collaboration with our friend and renowned photographer, Harman Singh Heer. 100% of the profits from the sale of these limited edition postcards will go to our conservation partnership with Kariega.
